Standardly, most insurance policies will have a height limitation that will not cover any external works that exceed 2 storeys, or 10 metres high. It is crucial that you have an Insurance policy that will protect you whilst working at heights.

Also known as Statutory Liability, this Insurance cover can protect the directors and the company from fines and penalties for wrongful breach of key legislation. It will also cover the legal fees involved to defend you, and the investigation costs incurred as part of an inquiry. This cover is standardly insured under a broad Management Liability Insurance policy, however if greater limits are required, it can be insured separately on a more comprehensive cover.

Public Liability Insurance policies standardly offer limits of $5,000,000, $10,000,000 and $20,000,000

The limit that you will need is going to depend on the work that you undertake. I

f you are a sole trader doing residential maintenance works, a limit of $5,000,000 could be sufficient.

If you are installing new residential roofs, and also undertaking some light commercial works, a limit of $10,000,000 may be better suited.

A limit of $20,000,000 is recommended for a roofing companies that contracts to other building companies and/or does more commercial works rather than residential.
